OUCofA's Beginner's Course is a great way to learn archery, and have fun while doing it. The course runs from the second week of Michaelmas each year.
Goals The basic aim is to get you proficiently shooting, able to set up and take down equipment unsupervised, do all of it safely and most importantly to have fun whilst doing it. By the end of the course (the end of term) you'll be competant enough to shoot completely unassisted and will be able to shoot at our 2 additional "experienced" sessions each week.
Structure Each week we'll be teaching something new, building on everything you have learned so far. Our experienced archers will be at sessions to guide you through the learning process. Equipment Everything you need will be provided by the club, from bows and arrows that you can use each week, to your freshers pack which will include an armguard, fingertab, fingersling and cliniband that will all be yours to keep. Requirements No prior knowledge is assumed or required. Our only requirement is membership of the club. Enthusiasm always helps :) Clothing You can wear pretty much whatever you want, but try to avoid anything baggy around the arms and chest. Location All Beginners' Course sessions are run in the main hall of the University Sports Centre on Iffley Road. Time Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00pm till 4:30pm, or Friday from 7:00am till 8:30am. These are the times we have the hall booked. Please try to arrive on time so you can help us set things up so we can get started promptly. Cost The beginners course is included with membership of the club (which is compulsory for insurance reasons). Membership is £40 for the year, and comes with a long list of benefits which are detailed elsewhere on the site. Everybody in the club pays £40, regardless of whether they are novices or not, so you are effectively getting the course for free. |
