In Brief: feel free to direct ALL and ANY membership enquiries to our Secretary (email address via the Committee page ). Alternatively, read on to find out what membership includes and how to join. Hopefully now you've had a taste of archery, you are all itching to join the club and get your teeth into the beginner's course. Just in case you weren't quite decided, or haven't been to a taster session, here are some of the benefits that joining the club gets you:
The Beginner's Course - Our team of coaches will teach you everything you need to know about archery.
Club Equipment - You can use our extensive range of quality bows and arrows, and every sort of random occasionally useful tool you can imagine.
Fresher's Pack - Included in your membership is all the small essential bits of equipment you need, and they are yours to keep! You get an armguard, a fingertab, a fingersling and a cliniband (which also handily doubles as a catapult)
Subsidised Tournament Entry - Tournaments are one of the best things about student archery, and there are just as many total beginners taking part as people who have been shooting for years. We go all over the country several times a term, with transport by minibus. Your tournament entry and transport will cost you £5, and on average costs the club £15, saving you £10. The savings will easily pay for your membership fee if you go to a few. If you go to every single tournament, for example, it can save you around £170.
Membership of ArcheryGB - The Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) is the governing body for archery in the UK. You'll get a membership card (eventually, they aren't the most efficient organisation in the world) and free subscription to Archery World, their quarterly magazine. Also, you can't shoot without ArcheryGB membership. We aren't being mean: it is for insurance reasons.
Great Socials - We'll be having at least one social every week, usually on Monday evenings. We try and make them fairly varied so there will be something for everybody. We also have 1 Black Tie event each term, with the highlight being the annual dinner in Hilary Term. This also ties into the tournaments, as we generally socialise with the other university archery clubs after the tournaments.
How it works:
You'll find our membership form here. We will not be taking any new members until October 2009. Archers with previous experience are welcome to join, at the cost of £30 for one year's membership. Please hand your completed membership form and cheque for £40 (made payable to "OUCofA" or "Oxford University Company of Archers") to the Secretary at a session. Alternatively pidge them the Secretary at college - see the Committee page for details of the current holder of the position. We are also open to students at Oxford Brookes University. If you are interested in trying archery and aren't a member of Oxford University, or if you have any other questions, please contact the Secretary.
